Introduction

 


Jersey Mikes started as a storefront location in Point Pleasant, NJ  in 1956. It was first known as Mike’s Subs and offered the public quality submarine sandwiches down by the shore. What made this place so special was that aside from selling great sandwiches, the owner made an effort to get to each and every customer. He ended up knowing what every customer wanted as soon as they walked through the door. In the 1970s Peter Cancro became the owner of Mike’s Subs at the age of 17. He had been working there since he was 14. By 1987 he changed the name to Jersey Mike’s Subs and started to franchise the store. The Jersey Mike’s Franchise has about 2000 stores in the United States. Outside of the U.S., there are two located in Ontario, Canada, and one location in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and Mexico. As of 2021 Jersey Mike’s has about 19,000 employees. By 2016, Jersey Mikes had become the United States fastest growing restaurant chain for three years in a row. With 197 additional stores opened in 2015 and 500 more under construction, the corporation has doubled in size. Jersey Mikes rely on their community service presence as well as a collegiate presence in order to market their product.
