Hardware is the physical element part of a computer such as a CPU, Monitor, RAM, ETC. Jersey Mike's uses hardware that contains a touchscreen monitor, receipt printer, cash drawer, a terminal for credit cards and a barcode scanner. This hardware that Jersey Mike's uses is effective enough to ring up the customers and to place their orders.

Jersey Mike's utilizes Cam Cloud Video to keep an eye on a number of their sites. Virtualization is the act of making a virtual version of something like a network. Three types of virtualization are PC, server, and desktop virtualization.Jersey Mike’s mobile app could not handle the influx when it first started and turned to WWT to try to come up with a better and newer solution. WWT used modern software to help design the new infrastructure and application deployments.

Jersey Mikes does use a open-source software. They use web based applications.

Some types of new technologies that are used are kiosks and mobile apps.Jersey Mike’s had this digital enhancement in 2019. These new technologies were used to make sales more quick and efficient in order to satisfy the demands of those customers that are digital natives. They are the customers that would appreciate a faster service. The mobile app allows customers to receive loyalty points for their purchases and even order from the app.

Jersey Mikes does not have a BYOD policy. A BYOD policy or a Bring your own device policy is when a company decides to allow or require their employees to use personal devices for work-related activities. Jersey Mikes does not use MDM software because there is no use for it.
What is a database? How is it different from a spreadsheet? (Emily)
A database is a collection of data that is stored and also accessed electronically through a computer system or a server like the cloud. A database is different from a database because spreadsheets are usually arranged and stored by columns and rows that are in individual cells that can be edited.

The information system we plan to study is how the transaction takes place between employer to customer. We will look into customer transaction reports and analyze customer survey data to find more tangible information about this.

A DBMS also known as a database management system is a program to create, process and administer a database. Jersey Mike’s administers data, they have something called the customer data platform which has the ability to capture data at at each touchpoint in the customer journey as well as across platforms and business systems of record, such as when an application is opened, a sandwich is added to and customized, an order is placed, or an item is picked up in-store. The CDP gathers information from over a half-dozen sources, including advertising networks, point-of-sale systems, mobile applications, email service providers, etc.

Some new technologies for databases consist of Cloud-based DBMS, automated DBMS and Open Source Databases. Jersey Mike's can use 2 of these new technologies to help improve their company. First they can use automated DBMS to help improve on their Customer support and placing orders. They can also use Cloud-based DBMS for storing data that they might have for a cheap price.

A LAN is a local area network that allows different computers or devices to connect to a specific network in one location. Jersey Mike’s does have one in order for their POS system, their cam cloud, and any other software they use for their business. The components of a LAN include a router and an internet service provider. From there the LAN can connect to laptops, phones, printers, and any other wireless devices.

The Cloud is the transformation of hardware and software into the internet. It is an elastic leasing of pooled computer resources over the internet as stated in Chapter 6. It’s important because it is the new common practice within businesses and has revolutionized services. Companies now are able to improve scalability and lower costs among a variety of other benefits. Some issues with Jersey Mike’s network are long loading screens on their mobile applications along with their long log-in processes according to justuseapp. I could use what I learned in this unit to recommend Jersey Mikes to upgrade their cloud capabilities especially with the substantial growth seen within the company within the last 5 years.
